Department: Health and Safety

Location: Swanley, Sites in London and the South-East

Reporting to: Health and Safety Manager

Hours: 9.00 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday
with one hour for lunch or such additional hours as are necessary for the proper performance of your duties.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for supporting the Health & Safety Manager in providing Health & Safety advice to Site Management and for monitoring and reporting on site Health & Safety performance.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
Stay abreast of current legislation and industry drivers.
Promote Health & Safety to all on site.
Act as first point of contact for Site Management regarding Health & Safety issues.
Assist Site Management in the formulation of the site H&S plan.
Advise Site Management on method statements and safe methods of working.
Advise Site Management on the delivery and content of training on site-specific topics.
Maintain the relationship with external Health & Safety advisors.
Advise on the implementation, maintenance and improvement the Health & Safety management system.

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION

Experience with a major new-build or construction contractor.
Qualified typically, MIOSH, Tech IOSH or MIIRSM..
Pro-active / self motivated.
Strong communication skills.

The Health & Safety Officer will be working company wide as well as for the company Director.

1. Successful candidates will have a Interiors & fitting out background and experience of fast track & high quality projects within the £1.5 – 10 million bracket.

2. Successful candidates should be comfortable with these various duties:


• Qualified to Nebosh Construction/General Certificate while willing to work towards further professional development.
• Practical experience of construction industry at frontline and management level.
• Understanding and knowledge of applying successful management principles required by CDM and associated health and safety legislation.
• Good time management with the ability to complete workloads required by job role and project team requirements. Have experience in dealing with accident investigation and reporting procedures.
• Carry out inspections, monitoring and auditing throughout the company as required by company policy while reporting directly to management and the board of directors on ongoing performance.
• Maintain core company records and procedures to maintain health and safety policy arrangements while assisting with the completion of risk assessments and Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans.
• Develop internal training packages and carry out training sessions as directed by company training plans for internal CPD requirements.
• Communicate clearly and concisely to clients, client’s representatives, employees and sub-contractors on company expectations and legal requirements.
• Work in accordance with company objectives in delivering and developing health and safety arrangements for legal requirements and encourage best practice to maintain company wide awareness on health and safety arrangements.
• The motivation to work within a dynamic specialist company to assist project teams and the company in continued development and productivity

Due to continued growth of the organisation we are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Consultants to teach site staff and construction management professionals. Specific experience of training and teaching would be an advantage but is not essential, but a strong communicative ability together with site experience would be a prerequisite.
