Our client is a medium sized regional contractor turning over £12 Million. The majority of their projects range from £100k-£2.5M (However they will cover smaller projects for key clients). They have 50 Permanent workforce of 50 and a further fluctuating workforce of 50-300 site operatives. They have steady turnover of 25-30 jobs running throughout Kent, Sussex and into Surrey and London. Their work is currently a mix of social housing refurbishment and commercial office refurbishment and fitout.

Due to an increase in workload they are looking for an experienced buyer to compliment the existing team. The role involves materials buying; you will ideally have a minimum of 2 years experience with a recognised contractor and be educated to at least HNC/D level. Our client is one of the UK's most respected privately owned construction companies, with an unrivalled portfolio across Social Housing Regeneration, Housing PFI and Property Development.

Due to their successful growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen.

Reporting to: Surveying Director

Hours: 9.00 am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday with one hour for lunch.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Chief Buyer is responsible for overseeing the procurement function throughout the Company and ensures that the Company's contractual position is protected. Exceptions are Sub-contract placement and the appointment of designers and consultants for contracts.

RESPONSIBLE FOR
Managing and overseeing all procurement activities of the Company. Including purchasing policy and establishing purchasing procedures and overseeing the operations of the Buying Department.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
Management of the procurement functions of the Company in accordance with
agreed Management Systems.
Recruitment, training and appraisal of purchasing staff.Manage and allocate
their workload.
Maintenance, development and documentation of Management Systems procedures for purchasing work.
Continue to improve performance professionally and technically by keeping abreast of current technology and methods.
Co-ordinate co-operation and communication between the estimating and Purchasing functions.
Attend Tender Adjudication meetings and Director's meetings as required to report on procurement matters.
Advise tender teams on matters relating to procurement of materials and services.

At tender handover meetings, identify key materials for each new contract.
The procurement of goods and services measured against a fixed set of conditions at equal to or less than the 'tender cost'.
Advise site management on matters relating to the availability of materials, which have a direct effect on the construction process and progress.
Report to management the level of success achieved in material procurement
Ensure that purchasing staff provide a timely and efficient service to the Operating Divisions of the Company.
Participate in industry sector activities related to procurement in order to keep up-to-date on prices, terms etc. Monitor screen prices for materials costs, keep catalogues, references, samples and create a library of suppliers.
Formulate Policy for purchasing Group overhead item.
